Felicia Serna ran away from her pack—more specifically her Alpha and his horrid behavior—to a war zone. But after two years away, she’s returned and knows she must face her possible punishment for defying him. Only it isn’t her Alpha or his men that are waiting for her when she returns. It’s Alaric! The man who fuels her fantasies!

Alaric knew he would make Felicia his mate from the moment he saw her, but she was too young at the time to do anything about it. So he made her Alpha aware of his intentions and waited. Only her Alpha wasn’t about to give her up…so when she came home to Alabama he made sure he was there to claim her!

Ms. Reus’ Protector’s Mate is well written and very tastefully executed. Certainly more than just an erotic romance. I will certainly read more by this author in the future. Her hero was strong without being overbearing and her heroine was the perfect mix of strong, independent woman and damsel in distress. The only negative comment I have is that there wasn’t a longer story!

“…a spectacular hit!”

Rating: ★★★★☆

Buy Promise Me Tonight now!

Sara Lindsey has certainly set the bar high with her debut historical novel, Promise Me Tonight. It’s a spectacular hit! From the endearing, powerful James Sheffield to the cunning, sensual beauty Isabella Weston she captures your heart and mind, and throws you back to a time when there really were gentlemen who knew how to treat a lady right in—and out—of bed!

James Sheffield learned about tragedy early in life when his parents died and he was sent to live with his surly grandfather. The elderly Earl was determined to mold little James into the man the Earl had hoped James’ father would have turned out to be. Throughout the years of James’ youth, his only salvation from the horrid man was the neighboring Weston family. They’d taken him and treated him as one of their own. All but the eldest daughter Isabella who’d never thought of him as just another sibling. She’d been determined to marry the boy next door ever since meeting him. It didn’t matter that they’d been children at the time. He’d been kind to her and sealed his fate!

Promise Me Tonight is funny, adventurous, and one of those tales that will leave you thinking about the couple long after you finish. Ms. Lindsey also does a nice job of setting up her follow up novel, Tempting the Marquess, by introducing a mystery and giving you a glimpse at young Olivia’s determination and wisdom. This is definitely an author to watch.

Phantom Evil by Heather Graham – Review

“…I was expecting something more…”

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Buy Phantom Evil now!

Heather Graham’s new series centered around a secret government unit formed by paranormal investigator, Adam Harrison, sets off all kinds of intriguing questions about the ever-fabulous city of New Orleans. Adam brings together a team who have never met, some without police or other formal investigative training, to help a powerful Senator prove that ghosts are responsible for his wife’s death.

Headed by FBI Special Behavioral Unit Leader, Jackson Crow, the team comes together to prove while ghosts might exists, it’s man who commits the evil lurking in dark places.

Due to experience and age, second in command is police woman, Angela Hawkins. She’s especially gifted at sensing and seeing paranormal elements. She’s also beautiful, and though she has tragic past, is open to possibilities where Jackson is concerned.

Ms. Graham introduces you to the other members of the team—the “kids” as Jackson and Angela call them. They each hold special skills of their own though not in law enforcement.

The story itself is unique and well thought out. If I had read this as a mainstream story—outside the romance genre—I’d have easily given it a 5…but as a romance, it was lacking for me. The entire story was so wrapped up in the ‘plot’ and ‘series’ set up that I felt Jackson and Angela didn’t receive their due. They fell into bed with one another quickly and easily. No conflict between them and no promise for a future, really.

There is another ‘mission’ hinted at near the end, so we might see those two develop more of a relationship in future books, but I was expecting something more on the lines of THE KEEPERS and just didn’t get it here.

I will certainly give another Krewe of Hunters book a read, but I am so hoping it has more romance!

The Proud Wife by Kate Walker – Review

The Proud Wife by Kate Walker

“…one of the most endearing tales I’ve read in a long time.”

Rating: ★★★★★

Intensely emotional, Kate Walker’s The Proud Wife turns a red-hot love affair with devastating loss into one of the most endearing tales I’ve read in a long time. Filled to the brim with gut wrenching confusion and love, this story allows you to see how miscommunication and circumstances can often cause people who rush head first into marriage to need a break to find perspective. What it also shows is that often first instincts can be just the ticket.

Sicilian Tycoon Pietro D’Inzeo knew he wanted Marina at their first meet, and an unplanned pregnancy certainly gave him the excuse he needed to push their affair to the next level–only circumstances cause the two to separate. But after two years when they’re about to make their divorce final, they realize it’s near impossible to really let each other go!

Ms. Walker’s voice rings proud and true in The Proud Wife–a must-read in my book!

Parker’s Price by Ann Bruce – Review

“…a carefully constructed, sexy plot turner…”

Buy Parker’s Price now!

Ann Bruce does a wonderful job twisting what could have been a sordid tale into a carefully constructed, sexy plot turner in her latest, Parker’s Price.

While the blurb will lure you in and allow you to believe this is just another “charity auction” story where the hero buys the heroine, it is far from it. In truth, sexy, fashion editor Parker Quinn organizes this particular auction where the models and featured persons of her magazine are the ones on the auction block. She’s not. But during a pre-auction gathering she meets the over-the-top handsome and totally rich, Dean Maxwell. And while if she hadn’t ever found out his name all things could have been over quickly as the attraction was scorching, she did and all went downhill from there. Because Dean was the one man she’d like to flay alive for abandoning her younger sister and the baby they had created!

But Dean isn’t used to women shying away from him, and it would seem the alluring Parker is one challenge he can’t resist. Leaving him no choice but to make a silent offer that she’d be unable to resist, he sweeps her into a romance where she questions her family loyalties and her ability to hold out against such a powerful attraction because of those.

This is one tale you won’t want to put down. Ms. Bruce is one to watch for in the future. The only negative I will say is that this story could have used a little more fine-tuning. There were parts where I had to re-read in order to understand what was said or being done. Not enough to detour my interest, but enough to be noticeable. Overall, though, the story fulfilled the promise of a great romance.
