Night’s Deep Hush by Erin Kellison – Review

Rating: ★★★★☆

SPECIAL NOTE: This is a series/serial. The main characters change but the plot does not. And these are short stories that intertwine. Small snippets of different couples dealing with the world they live in now. Reviewer notes that you should start at book 1 because they are not exactly ‘stand-alone’.

Zara’s Review

Night’s Deep Hush is the fourth installment of Erin Kellison’s Reveler Series. Continuing with the same epic plot, Ms. Kellison shares the Darkside world journey of Malcolm and Jordan. The intertwined destiny has these two risking it all to ‘save’ each other in some form or another. But in the end, will it be enough to ensure they have a lifetime together?

As a hero, Malcolm is the ultimate male. He’s sexy, smart and just a little vulnerable. An equal to be sure, Jordan is smart, extremely talented, and determined to get her man back from those who have abducted him! She’ll stop at nothing until he’s safe…even if that means walking a little on the seedy side. Two characters meant for each other I’ve never seen. Their insecurities and determination to do what they believe is best pushes all the boundaries, and in the end had me wanting to yell at those who would dare keep them apart. This installment more than the others I’ve read certainly left me wanting more. If all the characters were as suited as these two I’d be a fan for life. Unfortunately, not all were. So while I’d recommend this one, I have a hard time doing so for the rest.

On the flip side, the writing isn’t bad at all. But the plot and happenings throughout the story that weren’t related to the love these two shared was confusing. For that reason, I didn’t feel like it was really a five star book. I will give it another shot, though, and read the next installment that comes my way. I have a feeling it can only get better the more you understand about what is going on in the ‘epic’ plot.

 The Review…

Jennifer LaBrecque’s latest Alaskan Heat series book, Northern Fires, is explosive! The heat the two main characters share sizzles the words right off the page and makes it near impossible to put down. Out of all the books in this series, I’d say this was the one with the ‘toughest to deal with’ conflict and the hottest chemistry. Certainly, Ms. LaBrecque has hit her stride with Northern Fires!

Sven Sorenson isn’t just a Nordic hunk, he’s smart, sweet and very capable. He’s the kind of hero you want in your corner. And while Juliette Miller is riddled with a horrid past and secrets, she’s strong, smart and just as capable. The two compliment each other well and the emotion the two share makes everything they encounter through their story stronger. Definitely a must-read book for all!

About the Book…

Description:

He’s too hot not to touch…

For construction foreman Sven Sorenson, Good Riddance, Alaska, is as close to heaven as it gets. It’s the type of place where a man can be a man…. Unfortunately, there’s one thing missing–women! Now that Sven’s finally ready to settle down, finding the right girl is next to impossible. Especially since he can’t keep his mind–or his hands–off the wrong one!

A high-flying bush pilot, Juliette Miller’s not interested in clipping her wings for commitment. She’s tried that and come up empty–twice. Still, her attraction to Sven is sizzling enough to melt the Alaskan chill. And it might convince her to find out whether the third time really is the charm.

 The Review…

The next book in Jennifer LaBrecque’s Alaskan Heat series, Northern Escape, is a wonderful read. Full of interesting back-story and a sweet romance. You’ll be hard-pressed not to fall for “Gus” –the beautiful world-class chef who runs the local eatery—or her inquisitive counterpart, travel journalist Nick Hudson. Their relationship is as sweet as it is explosive, but Gus is guarded and Nick is determined to run a story about her that will give her the notoriety she doesn’t want!

Ms. LaBrecque has done a beautiful job of mixing the characters of Good Riddance into the eclectic group you’ll want to read about over and over. In Northern Escape, you’ll find yourself routing for Nick to win Gus over while at the same time wanting to kick him for disrupting her life and possibly putting her in danger. Definitely a good read for a cold night!

Night Moves by Eden Bradley is a quick, sensual read that inflames your senses!

Kate has a secret fetish, one that ultimately leads her into the wrong train cabin…but into the arms of Mr. Right! At just around 37 pages, this little Spice Brief is just that…spicy and brief. So it’s perfect for when you don’t have time to get fully involved in the characters but well-written and interesting enough not to be just a bunch of sex scenes. If you like a touch of erotic romance in your stories, this one is definitely for you!

Never Kiss A Stranger by Heather Grothaus – Review

“…a remarkable romp through history that will leave you breathless…”

Rating: ★★★★★

Adventurous, enlightening and truly romantic, Never Kiss A Stranger, is a remarkable romp through history that will leave you breathless and eager to read more as you’re steeped in Lady Alys Foxe and Piers Mallory’s journey to see the King of England.

Intertwined with a centuries old legend that declares if you meet someone at midnight under the light of a full moon in the Foxe Ring (ancient standing stones) you’re married, Lady Alys believes Piers is destined to be her husband. While Piers balks initially, by the time the two encounter numerous trials and perils, he’s determined to do whatever it takes to claim Alys as his own.

Ms. Grothaus’ characters are very well developed and relatable. Her humor and plausible plot lend to the romance in such a way as to keep your emotions shifting throughout the tale. Especially where Lady Alys is concerned. She’s definitely spoiled and highly spirited, but not necessarily in a bad way.  Her forthright manner, honesty and caring are what make her shine through the book. She shows amazing growth and tenacity in her determination to do what’s right.

As does Piers—if not in a different way. Piers is ultimately a damaged hero. While sensitive and capable, he is a bit insecure when it comes to his own worth. And, of course, what he needs is a good woman…one who shows him nothing but respect and selfless devotion. The two characters are developed in such a way that you can’t imagine either being with anyone else!

Never Kiss A Stranger introduces the wealthiest sisters in England, the Foxe heiresses. Starting off with Lady Alys’ tale, then followed by Lady Cecily, and ending with Lady Sybilla’s adventure into love, I am sure you will find something intriguing about each heroine!

Navajo Night by Carol Ann Didier – Review

“…flowed beautifully and was easy to read.”

The novel Navajo Nights by Carol Ann Didier flowed beautifully and was easy to read. For this genre and subject matter the sensuality was perfect.

When squash Blossom dies, Notah her husband dedicates himself to learning every verse in every song and prayer the Navajos used. He vowed to never let another one of his clan perish and vowed to never marry again.

Set in the Navajo American lands, New Mexico, in the late 1800s, the story cleverly incorporates Notahs children, Bella and her twin brother, Bacca. Carol Ann Diders use of authentic details like his pinto pony and lucid images paints a picture with many hues and layers to be heard, smelled, tasted and felt.

The story grows in complexity when a family in a wagon crosses paths with Spirit Talker. John, his wife Rebecca and their daughter, Joanna are alone with only their wits and spirits to guide them. The tensions of living in New Mexico with wild animals, Mexicans, Indians, trappers, and minors where there is no civilization creates a descriptive and complicated setting where the story unravels.

Joanna is a free spirit fascinated with plants and enjoys the idea of meeting the natives. Both frightened and intrigued her emotions intensify. Will she find love here? Both her and her father are sympathetic to the American Natives plight against the government destroying their land and natural way of life, but will it be enough to build the bridges needed?

As Notah must rely on Dr. Lund to aid his boy in his illness, a trust forms that helps to heal not only Notah and his sons physical alignments, but their emotions as well. Will Notah overcome his own prejudices of the foreign white settlers and find love in Joannas arms?

I will not spoil it for you in this review. But I will say this is one of the more interesting and well constructed novels I have read in 2010.
