SEDUCTIVE SUPERNATURALS: 12 Tales of Shapeshifters, Vampires & Sexy Spirits by Erin Quinn, Caridad Piñeiro, Erin Kellison, Lisa Kessler, Chris Marie Green, Mary Leo – Review

Reviewed by Larissa M.

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Seductive Supernatural’s is a collection of 12 tales ranging from shape shifters and vampires to spirits. In reviewing an anthology, I usually take each book and do a detailed review about each. Since there are so many here I’m not sure I’ll do that. Especially since so many are not really worth reading…in my opinion…but there are some that stood out and I wished were showcased separately so I wouldn’t have to pull up such a large file to read just that one book again—if I wanted to do so. But since they are and I was asked for an honest review, here goes.

DIABLO SPRINGS by Erin Quinn:

This is one that I didn’t really care for. The writing wasn’t clear and engaging. I didn’t find the characters really that relatable and I didn’t find the whole plot believable.

VAMPIRE REBORN by Caridad Pineiro:

I found myself skimming this one. The story did not engage me from the get-go so I kept hoping something would snap me into the story. It didn’t.

SHADOW FALL by Erin Kellison:

I did like this one. Erin Kellison left me engaged in the plot and I found I enjoyed seeing what would happen with Annabella. Definitely not a fresh plot, but an interesting one.

NIGHT ANGEL by Lisa Kessler:

Mystical and interesting, I enjoyed the hero and heroine in this short story. I found the idea of the heroine being deaf intriguing, but I was a bit disappointed that wasn’t fixed for her in the end. But alas, she did get a hunky, near-God instead. I would have enjoyed more of this story.

SHADOWS TILL SUNRISE by Chris Marie Green:

Again, found this one hard to get into. I didn’t really get a clear picture of what was happening. The descriptions and dialogue left me a bit ‘out of the story’ so to speak.

SHADOW AT TWILIGHT by Mary Leo:

Though I had high hopes for this one as a romance with a ghost/spirit seemed very interesting. Add in the boss/assistant scenario and I knew it should be good. But again, found this one hard to get into. I didn’t really get a clear picture of what was happening. The descriptions and dialogue left me a bit ‘out of the story’ so to speak.

MORE THAN FIENDS by Maureen Child:

Didn’t enjoy the plot of this. I didn’t see the whole baby daddy thing as a plot point that was interesting. I enjoy most of Maureen Child’s other work, so I had hopes for this but I just couldn’t get into it.

IMMORTAL POSSESSION by Cassi Carver:

Interesting, nice writing style. This is one that I might re-read so I can totally follow it but on first read I enjoyed the chemistry between the two main characters. The plot was dramatically sensitive as well.

FOREVER ROSE by Janet Wellington:

I didn’t enjoy this one either. I couldn’t get into the whole back-in-time thing. I found myself skimming which I hate to do but I so wanted more out of this story. Didn’t get it.

WELCOME HOME, VAMPIRE by Theresa Meyers:

This was reminiscent of a typical romance where the hero tries to regain humanity by seeking someone he loved before. But it was written well and was clear to read. Definitely will try something by Ms. Meyers again.

VAMPIRE MAGIC (Blood Genie, books 1 and 2) by Sheri Whitefeather:

These books were simply fascinating. Two brother vampires that were turned into genies. Inventive and intriguing. Add in the two are loaned from their ‘master’ or owner to help people rather than personal gain and you have an interesting twist. There are catches but Ms. Whitefeather has a wonderful writing style. I’m eager to read the third book and see what happens to the vampire now turned genie who turned the brothers in the first place!

WILD NIGHTS WITH A LONE WOLF by Elisabeth Staab:

Fast-paced, sensual, and well written, Ms. Staab does a good job with Wild Nights with a Lone Wolf. Both characters are believable and interesting. I’d definitely read more by this author!

Fast Track by Julie Garwood – Review

“…interesting, suspenseful, intriguing, heart-wrenching, heart-warming and oh, so sensual.”

Rating: ★★★★★

Fans of Julie Garwood’s contemporary series romances are in for a real treat with her recent release of Fast Track! The long awaited story of Aiden Hamilton Madison—oldest brother and ultimately the family patriarch—and the sweet, uber smart Cordelia Kane—best friend to Aiden’s sister Regan (see her fall for Alec Buchanan in Murder List)!

I’d like to start this review by saying I’m a huge fan of Julie Garwood. Pretty much anything she’s written from her historical romances to the latest contemporaries I’ve never been let down…or led astray. But the back cover copy for this one was a little misleading. I imagined a whole different book from what I received. Now, I’m not complaining. Not in the least. This one was SO much better than what I’d imagined. But there was something of a little disappointment as I imagined a whole push/pull scenario where Aiden was concerned for Cordie’s safety because of something to do with him. And an admission from Cordie about how she’d been in love with him for years. But what I received was interesting, suspenseful, intriguing, heart-wrenching, heart-warming and oh, so sensual. The two have been meant for each other from the beginning. Though I had some issues with parts of how this one played out, those issues were my personal failing as I’ve had way too much time to imagine this one since it’s been so long since Fire and Ice was released and the stories in between weren’t really involving the three friends or the Madison brothers.

Ultimately, though, I fell in love with this romance. From Aiden, who’s the perfect hero. He’s the alpha and always has been so responsible. Maybe a little too involved in everyone’s life but we see he’s changed some over time and is willing to spread the responsibilities around and doesn’t shy away from stepping back to enjoy life some. To Cordelia, who despite being smart is just a shade naive in a good way. The whole story—from the characters to the plot—played out really well. From Cordie making up her mind (with a little advice from her dying father) to move on and forget the childhood infatuation she had with Aiden, to Aiden realizing he wanted Cordie in his life forever. The two had a few obstacles from the outside, but not a whole lot of angst or struggle internally. Might have liked a little more there and Cordie sticking up for how she feels/has felt, but overall not disappointed with how it worked itself out. The supporting characters were wonderful as always. I enjoy visiting old characters to see what they’re up to. And since that is one of my favorite things about all Garwood romances—how the book stays centered on the main couple—I know this is one I’ll keep and re-read over and over.

I’m not sure where Ms. Garwood will go next but I can say I’ll have it on auto-buy!

Fast Track by Julie Garwood

As a huge Garwood fan, I’m bumping this one back up. Since I’d already posted it last December when I first heard about the release, I wanted to give it a little love closer to release time. Are you ready? I’m sad it isn’t another Buchanan novel (Man, I love those!) but it’s closely related as Aiden’s sister is married to Alec (see Murder List). Who else is with me? Don’t you love related books! 🙂

fasttrack-juliegarwood Cordelia Kane has always been a daddy’s girl—her father raised her alone after her mother died in a car crash when Cordelia was just two years old. So when he has a serious heart attack, Cordelia is devastated, and the emotion is only intensified by the confusion she feels when he reveals the shocking truth about her mother.

Cordelia can’t suppress her curiosity about the woman who gave birth to her, and when she discovers the answers to her questions lie in Sydney, Australia, she travels there to get them.

Hotel magnate Aiden Madison is Cordelia’s best friend’s older brother. He’s oblivious to the fact that she’s had a crush on him for years. When he gets railroaded into taking her along to Sydney on his company jet, he unknowingly puts her life at risk. He’s recently angered a powerful congressman by refusing to purchase overvalued land. Congressman Chambers is not a man to let such an offense slide, and he has the resources to get even and to get what he wants.

In Australia sparks are flying between Cordelia and Aiden, but multiple attempts on Aiden’s life are made while Cordelia is with him, and he realizes he must put a stop to the madness before he loses the thing he values most.

Hotshot by Julie Garwood – Review

“…Garwood’s mastery at work…”

Rating: ★★★★★

Master storyteller, Julie Garwood’s skill for writing romantic thrillers—which almost always tie together various friends and families from other book, including her historical novels—always leave you wanting more from the main and supporting characters with each upcoming book. Her stories have a way of tugging at your heart long after the last page and Hotshot is no exception.

In Hotshot, you’ll find Ms. Garwood’s mastery at work as the fabulously talented swimmer turned FBI agent, Finn MacBain saves Peyton Lockhart from death at an early age only to find her again when they are older and she once again could use his help. While Finn has turned more serious with his life and holds that there is no room for a relationship with his kind of work, he can’t deny the attraction to Peyton.

The same is true for Peyton. Though possibly full of a little more hero-worship than healthy at first, it becomes clear that Peyton’s feelings are beyond his saving her life as a kid. Peyton is smart, funny and full of life even after all the crazy setbacks in her life. And she is on a set path to make something out of her life in the culinary world.

As the story depths unfold, Peyton and her sisters are given the job of turning around a posh oceanfront resort, Bishop’s Cove, into a profitable business once more. If they can do that, they will receive the property as ‘inheritance’ from their uncle (though he isn’t deceased). There are conditions, but ultimately, the girls decide to take the job. Only Peyton’s recent past continues to haunt her in a way that leaves a desperate killer after her and the only person able to truly save her is Finn.

But when the dust settles can the two merge their lives and live happily ever after?
