Vanity Baker loves a good, clean match, but she’s not above playing a little dirty. She’s wanted Stack "The Wolf" Hannigan from day one. Seems as though the best way to corral the famously commitment-phobic fighter is to insist on keeping it casual. And her plan works—deliciously well—until Stack’s past steps out of the shadows.
Stack learned early to stay free of attachments. But with sexy, forthright Vanity, he’s the one always left wanting more. Then his troublemaking family comes back into the picture, threatening everything Stack cares about—Vanity included. Suddenly he realizes they’re much more than friends with benefits. He’s ready to go to the mat for her…but will it be in time to protect the woman who’s tamed him for good?
Twenty-one-year-old Kayla Turner has lost everything. After spending most of her life taking care of her ailing mother, she just wants to spot a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. So when her late father-a man she barely knew-leaves her an inheritance, she finally breathes a sigh of relief . . . until she learns the inheritance comes with strings. Strings in the form of handsome playboy Daren Ackwood, her father’s protégé. To see any of her inheritance, she’s forced to team up with him. From his expensive car to those sexy dimples, Kayla’s seen his type before. But Daren isn’t who he seems to be…
Struggling to make amends for his family’s mistakes, Daren has a life more Oliver Twist than Richie Rich these days. He’s beyond grateful that James Turner included him in his will, but working with Turner’s princess of a daughter to fulfill his cryptic last wish is making Daren wonder if being broke is really so bad. Still, she’s just as beautiful as she is stubborn, and the more time he spends with Kayla, the less it feels right being without her. Soon Daren and Kayla begin to wonder if maybe the best gift Kayla’s dad could have left them . . . was each other.

Back to enthrall us with her interlocking world of honor, danger and intrigue, Lori Foster has an all new series of Ultimate MMA fighters!
Tied to her previous Love Undercover (see Run the Risk, Bare it All, Getting Rowdy, and Dash of Peril) series and subsequently the Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor (see When you Dare, Trace of Fever, A Perfect Storm, and What Chris Wants) series, Hard Knocks takes you into the world of no-holds bar fighting where you must risk all to get the ultimate reward. Only can Harper Gates and Gage Ringer find a way to balance Gage’s career and their budding love?
Though this is a novella and I would have certainly loved more of Harper and Gage’s story, I was immediately drawn into this new world. And I must say I was even more excited after I realized the connection to Rowdy’s Bar and the previous characters I’d adored so much in her past books. A super prequel to Cannon’s story (No Limits), Hard Knocks allows you to meet all the new players and some of the old ones you adored from pervious books. In fact, from Ms. Foster’s website, you can learn that the majority of the setting for the first few books in this new series will take place in Rowdy’s Bar and Cannon’s rec center.
Hard Knocks sets up the Ultimate series and gives you a glimpse at how difficult it could be to have a relationship of any kind with an MMA fighter. Though the balance could be made if those in love were willing to put in the effort. And reading Harper and Gage’s journey from friends to relationship was fantastic. The two are strong, independent characters who you’ll fall for immediately. They both have a sense of purpose and Harper supports Gage all the way. But it was interesting to see how once Gage realized how strong his feelings were he put Harper into first place. Making this an interesting, sweet read that you won’t want to miss, that’s for sure!
Eli Conners expected hired mercenary Ray Vereker to be a tank of a guy with forty tattoos—not the feminine ideal with lethal combat skills. While Eli certainly needs Ray’s help, the rest of him is thinking he might have something to offer her…
Ray’s as good as any man when it comes to storming enemy compounds and loading an AK-47, but who could blame a girl for succumbing to mind-blowing temptation in the steamy jungle? But now it’s back to business. If only Ray wasn’t feeling hot, bothered, dizzy…
Suddenly, Ray’s precise, no-nonsense mission is veering wildly off course, derailed by raging hormones, out-of-control desire, and a delirious love that is completely unexpected…

Power. Brute strength. Unforgettable moves. It’s no wonder Harper Gates hasn’t been able to get her fling with Gage "Savage" Ringer out of her head. Months have passed since she laid eyes—or any other body parts—on him. Months without a word of contact…until, sidelined by injury, he comes back to town.
Staying focused on his training seemed like a smart move to Gage, even if he thought about Harper every day. Seeing her again only makes it clear how much is at stake. He’s got one night to earn back her trust. One night to show her that behind his breathtaking skill and ripped body is a man who’ll give her everything she needs.
NOTE: This is a novella. It is the prequel to her upcoming Ultimate series. The first of which is, No Limits coming soon! 🙂

A master storyteller, Lori Foster never fails to fulfill all your romantic needs with her stories. If you’ve missed any of her older Harlequin’s, you’re in for a treat. They seem to be releasing them again. In her latest, Up in Flames, you’ll get to revisit Body Heat and Caught in the Act.
In Body Heat, Melanie Tucker finds herself trapped on a party boat with Adam Stone…and then ultimately stranded with her sexy nemesis!
In Caught in the Act, undercover cop Mick Dawson follows his gut instinct to protect Delilah Piper rather than arrest her. Only Mick’s instincts are also screaming he wants more from the sexy mystery writer.
Both stories are well written, very fulfilling and leave you wanting more. I loved each character. They were mutli-dimensional and engaging, relatable. The situations were realistic. I felt a connection with each heroine and loved that they weren’t plastic, cookie cutter types. I love Lori Foster’s books—and reading Body Heat for the first time and Caught in the Act again only cemented why she’s an automatic buy for me. I look forward to more of her stories.
