Book one of Greenway Range
Retired marine Sawyer Cain can’t forget all he’s seen and lost, but he can try to start over. Opening a gun range with his closest friends is the first step toward a new life—one where he finally buries the guilt he can’t seem to shake. So much depends on the property he needs to buy…and the gorgeous but completely frustrating woman who refuses to sell it.
Hailey Thorne is done—with loss and with anything military, after the closest thing she had to an uncle died in Afghanistan. When Sawyer shows up on her porch he has military written all over him. He’s one more in a long line of people who wants the land she inherited, and suddenly he’s everywhere she goes. Hailey can’t get the broad-shouldered, dirty-talking, dead-serious man out of her head. Or her life.
Sawyer’s not above using his skills in the bedroom to try to convince her to sell, and Hailey is more than willing to let him. Their pleasure-only arrangement works…until emotions get in the way. But Sawyer has a secret he’s convinced will have Hailey hating him forever, and Hailey’s not willing to risk loving anyone she could lose.
Luxury yacht, tropical seas, babes in bikinis…dream job, right? Wrong. The passengers are rich jerks who treat the crew like garbage, when they aren’t pretending we’re their whores. The best day was when that cokehead heiress Kalina tried to fire me just for doing my job. I swore I’d never go back home to my parents and their crazy fundamentalist ranch in the desert, but nothing could be worse than this.
And then the pirates attack.
Luxury yacht, tropical seas, billionaire boyfriend…dream trip, right? Wrong. After catching my man getting "extra services" from the maid, I know I’m the laughingstock of passengers and crew. Every time I lay eyes on that quiet, handsome deckhand Adam, I can feel him judging me. I want to die, and when the pirates show up, I think I’m going to.
But Adam… he saves me. Now we’re alone together on a lifeboat in the open ocean. Adam thinks we don’t have a chance, but thanks to him, we’ve made it this far.
And then, in the distance, I spot an island…
If you want to truly know a cowboy…saddle up real close…
Chance Lassiter is comfortable on a horse, not in front of a camera. But public relations expert Felicity Sinclair thinks he’d be the perfect spokesman to restore the Lassiters’ tarnished image. There isn’t much the wealthy rancher wouldn’t do for his family, so he welcomes the sexy consultant to his ranch, wondering if she’ll sink or swim on his territory. Soon he’s the one drowning—in passion. This city girl sure knows how to handle herself. But when it comes to handling him? It’s time for Chance to show Felicity what a real cowboy is all about.
“…sizzling hot stories that leave you hot and yet sighing with the romance of it all.”
by Zara B.
Turn Up The Heat, an anthology containing stories by Lori Foster, Christie Ridgway, Victoria Dahl, features three sizzling hot stories that leave you hot and yet sighing with the romance of it all. All three are well written, enjoyable reads. Even if they are a bit short (as is how they were intended) for me, I enjoyed them 100%. But here’s a breakdown of each:
Love Won’t Wait by Lori Foster
Of all three stories in this anthology, Ms. Foster’s is by far my favorite. Romantic, interesting, well-written and oh, so hot! Brendan "Brick" Carlisle our hero isn’t at all used to working for what he wants…and he wants shy waitress Merrily Loveland. But before he can make his move, Merrily comes to him with an offer he can’t refuse. Only neither of them expect the connection that forms with her proposition!
Beach House Beginnings by Christie Ridgway
Definitely my second favorite story of the anthology, Ms. Ridgway’s tale has Meg Alexander returning to her family’s resort on Crescent Cove in California after years away. She’s there to watch the resort while her sister is away, but she hasn’t been back since she left for college and there are still ghost memories that haunt her. Or the spark of desire she feels for Caleb McCall—the cousin of the boy she’d loved in her teens and who died at the cove.
Strong Enough to Love by Victoria Dahl
To be honest this isn’t only my least favorite story but one I’m not sure I’d recommend to a friend. The story involves a photographer who at one time was the ‘apprentice’ of another photographer who was married. They had feelings for each other but Brian moves away to give his marriage one last shot before coming back and telling Eve he’s ready for a shot with her since his marriage is now officially over. What’s wrong with this picutre? For me, it wasn’t the least romantic. He obviously didn’t feel the overwhelming lasting love to be with Eve when his marriage was already pretty much at the divorce level or he would have followed through and ended the bad marriage before even professing his feelings for Eve. It’s warped and I’m not at all sure I think it’s something that could last any longer than his marriage to his first wife. But someone else will certainly disagree and think he was moral in giving his marriage one last try while being in love with another woman (Eve).
Fortunately for Ms. Dahl, though, the other two stories certainly carried more weight and the review got a full 5 stars because of them.
About the book…
June 4, 2013
From the moment I first met Gideon Cross, I recognized something in him that I needed. Something I couldn’t resist. I saw the dangerous and damaged soul inside–so much like my own. I was drawn to it. I needed him as surely as I needed my heart to beat.
No one knows how much he risked for me. How much I’d been threatened, or just how dark and desperate the shadow of our pasts would become.
Entwined by our secrets, we tried to defy the odds. We made our own rules and surrendered completely to the exquisite power of possession…
Alexa Grace’s first release, Deadly Offerings, is receiving very positive reviews on Amazon. The cover isn’t bad either!
