Big Sky Mountain by Linda Lael Miller – Review

“…found myself expecting more from this book than it gave.”

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Ms. Miller’s Big Sky Mountain is the second book in her tales of love under the Montana Sky series. While I have always enjoyed almost anything she’s written, I found myself expecting more from this book than it gave. The story felt a bit contrived, if not forced, and I didn’t get a good feel for the hero and heroine. I felt like there were a lot of emotional issues not addressed. I’m going back for the first book hoping I get a a better look at the current hero as I don’t think he’s much of a hero at this point. Sexy, sure. Good with kids, sure. But right for the heroine…not so sure.

And the heroine gave me more than a few moments of wondering what she was thinking. She’s good natured, but her questioning the hero’s love for his now sister-in-law was never addressed and I keep wondering if those seeds of doubt will truly allow the couple a happily ever after like you think they should have.

Big Sky Mountain started with our hero, Hutch Carmody, standing at the alter seconds before the bridal march. Needless to say, he’s not getting married. And while the whole town watches, he leaves the bride at the alter. Lots of drama and groom bashing occurs. He takes it well. But in very short order, he finds himself drawn back to an old flame, Kendra Shepherd.

Kendra’s now a mom, though, and she longs for the family she never had. But is Hutch really going to commit? Can he be a one woman man?
