An evocative, cutting-edge thriller with a wonderfully romantic twist, INside starts off Brenda Novak’s 2011 trilogy in a most imaginative way!

Giving us her unique interpretation of what it could be like to live life in prison for years for a crime you didn’t commit only to be forced back inside in order to save the ones you love, she delves into government corruption, gangs, and how one is forced to survive in prison. She also gives us a look at one man’s honor, integrity and selflessness in light of what his family and the legal system have done to him.

If you don’t fall a bit in love with Virgil Skinner from the get-go you aren’t human. He’s the epitome of the perfect hero…with TONS of flaws. He’s been in prison for over a decade for a murder he didn’t commit, so he’s hard-edged and cynical over that life-changing ordeal. Not to mention the things he was forced to do in prison to survive. But through it all he maintains his sense of what’s right and wrong—with a little gray thrown in.

In perfect contrast, Peyton Adams is the perfect heroine. Strong, independent, honest, Peyton is exactly what Virgil needs in order to survive the new ordeal he’s forced into so that he can keep his sister and her kids safe. She holds her own in a man’s world.

Ms. Novak has been a favorite of mine for some time, but this has to be The Book for me out of all her work. It’s the one I will remember for many years to come. It’s the one that stands out not only because of the content, but the depth of the romance that is instant and intense enough for you to know that is it for these two people. They will never love anyone else like they do each other. I also related to her inspiration for this work, Prison Break. I thought the romance in that television show could have been more developed. Though only a few of the elements in INSide are the same, I think Ms. Novak did a fabulous job of bringing together all the elements to make sure this story endures the often tell-tell elements that date a work. You aren’t going to want to miss this one!
